My answer to this question is Yes.
Our young people in junior high and high school need to learn how to dress for the real world. They won't be in high school forever. The hip hop style they are wearing now will not get them through the doors of many, major companies and corporations.
It's time for the schools to get back into the business of really preparing our young men and women for the real world. Their hip hop clothes is okay for the streets, dances, going to the park or just hanging out with friends but in won't get you a decent good paying job in the real world.
Like I said, "there should be a dress code once our young people get into junior high and high school. They need to be taught what is appropriate and was is not in the work place."
Now hip hop clothes might be fine to wear to an interview for a clothing store, grocery stores and for fast food jobs or warehouse work. And then again not for the interview. Remember we must teach our young men and women to dress to impress on first sight. When it comes down to trying to land that first job. They need to know how to dress to impress.
If they had an interview at a fortune 500 company, financial institution, insurance companies, executive positions, secretarial/administrative jobs, etc. They must learn how to dress and make that first impression a lasting one in the eyes of the interviewer. These types of positions require a certain type of clothing.
The First Impression Is Always Going To Be A Lasting One.
Do you want the person interviewing you to remember that he or she had a face full or piercings, pants hanging off the behind, no belt, hair not neat, dirty sneakers? Or for the young women do you want to be remember for the interviewer being able to (see your thong or brief from over the tops of your pants). Do you want to be remembered for showing your breast instead of being remember for your intelligent conversation.
This is something for the parents and teachers to seriously think about. We need to get back to the job of teaching our young men and women how to dress to impress; not how to dress and scare at first sight.
What it all boils down to is teaching our young people to have respect for themselves and everybody else. We must teach them to love themselves and think highly of themselves. We must teach them that their life matters and that their life is important and has a higher purpose. These lessons must be taught in the homes and extend to the schools where our children spend six to eight hours a day with their teachers.
In every young man's closet he should have a pair of dress pants or khakis (black, brown or beige.) A pair of dress shoes (not sneakers), a tie, a black or brown sports coat and a white button down shirt. This is a must in every man's closet young or old.
For the young ladies they should have a nice dress nothing fancy, or a two piece suit (black or navy) and a black or brown skirt, or a nice pair of slacks. They must also have a nice white blouse and a pair of pumps (black) they go with everything. Oh, don't let me forget a pair of panty hose or knee highs. This is also a must in every women's closet young or old.
It's all about having the basics in life. Our young people must be taught to always be prepared because you never know where you might find yourself in the real adult world.
